3D Scanning allows the creation of a 3D mesh from a real world object or environment. From here all sorts of application possibilities open up including; animation, archiving, medical research, rapid prototyping, industrial design and quality control inspection.
There are numerous options available to do this, each
with their own advantages. Some read the object with red laser light,
others use white light to record the subject, plus there are manual systems
which allow point by point analysis of the object.
